[from London to Phoenix] Luggage, Glasses, and the Gate part 3
continued from Part 1 and Part 2……
After putting my brain on a 30-seconds work, I decided to find what the faith of my glasses was. This decision emerged especially because I felt that I had a chance to fight for the glasses’ faith after losing about 16 pairs of glasses all over the world! Who knows, this time I had a chance?
I ran to the Gate 19 and quickly found the KLM desk, which unfortunately, was attended by a very nice English lady. I explained everything in detailed and she quickly made a follow-up call. Her first call wasn’t successful. It seemed that a person at the other end didn’t find any glasses. Second call gave a hope. This is a conversation I recalled from her call.
“Yes, desk 48? Right, a pair of sunglasses with silver rim.”
“She is here and supposed to fly with KL1002 soon.”
“Can someone bring them to the Gate 1b?”
“No? On the return? I’ll ask her”
The lady asked me, “Maam, when are you returning?”
“Oh, no, I will not return,” I responded.
Oh well, of course I will ‘return’ someday but not these days.
“She is not returning. Can’t you get someone to just bring them here?”
“OK. Travelex? Are you saying Travelex? OK, she’ll meet you there.”
Apparently the KLM lady was successful in persuading someone to bring the glasses to the boarding area. The plan was to have someone met me at the Travelex kiosk, right in front of the security gate. Cool!!!
I quickly ran to the Travelex. I was looking around but didn’t see any body with KLM uniform. I checked on every people with blue uniform… nobody held my glasses! I glanced at the big clock there. 8:26!! The plane had started boarding since 10-16 minutes ago, I thought. From the Travelex to the Gate 1b, I assumed it’d take around 2 minutes, so I decided to wait until 8:27 or 8:28 the latest because at around 8:30 or 10 minutes before taking off I’d be accepted for boarding!
One minute was passed. The person I was looking for wasn’t there yet, still. Then I heard a voice, announcing, “Passenger Lim, passenger Lim…..” “Wow, is that my name? Yes, that is,”I though. Yes, it was me that was called.
I was in a big dilemma. I had ran. I had tried to get the glasses. And I got it. But then why should I miss the flight for the glasses? Aaah….. I decided to wait another minute….
Not so long, someone patted my shoulder. A middle-age guy in blue uniform…. he brought me glasses!! Hurray!!!!
Be thankful and happy, I ran as fast as possible to the Gate 1b. As soon as I arrived I screamed, “I am passenger Lim!!!!”
Saved! The last passenger of KL 1001 had just arrived. She flew with the plane from London to Amsterdam. ![]()
