Buying my first guitar

Thinking. Thinking. Thinking. Yeah, I was thinking too much. After years of thinking of buying a guitar, I never did. In Bandung, I always borrowed guitars belong to friends, PSM, my brother, or the church. In Enschede, for nearly a year, I borrowed Patrick’s guitar (thank you, Patitje..:D).

Finally, on November 4th, 2005, I bought my first guitar from the biggest guitar store in the world, Guitar Center. There were hundreds (if not thousands) guitars there. I spent about 2 hours trying so many guitars. The guitar I chose was not the best one of course. The best that I tried was Taylor 914-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar. The initial price was US$5,218 here and it was sold there at $3,899. Wow, it felt so gooooooood to play that guitar.

But my guitar, Ovation Celebrity CCO57 (accoustic electric) is not that expensive. It is, though, the best in its class and in its price range (I got a big discount, btw, nearly 50%). So, I am happy about it. Really happy….:D (Don’t be jealous too much, Andrew and Ime :P).

p.s. amazing coincidence, only a few hours after i decided that i would buy a guitar, i got a cheque (from my forgotten project), exactly the same amount of that guitar.

Just by chance I browse the net and found if you’re SMAK BPK BANDUNG ALUMNI and adding my amazement is you’re also guitar lover? May I know what year you finish your HS? I was from 1977 and love to play classical guitar since then. Maybe if you come from the same year with me, you might know me played solo at the farewell/inauguration gathering.

mer: thanks for dropping by. yes, I am from SMAK 1! wow what a coincidence. i finished highschool much later after you, though. so perhaps when you played solo at the gathering, i was still in my first grade elementary school. so, you are a classical guitar player,.. that’s fantastic! i am only an amateurish player.
