On break, ‘breaking’, asleep, music and art — week 4

Last week, the fourth week, wasn’t much about ‘on break’, but mostly about breaking all kind of rules, regulations and barriers! I had to say I had my moments where I temporarily regretted myself for breaking those rules — for example when walking over the bridge and couldn’t continue or when I was stuck with my wheelchair in the alley of airport restroom — but those regrets only lasted 34 seconds each, haha, and after that I went back to my stubborn mode.

Should admit, I am not by-the-book kind of person at all. There’s something so satisfying about breaking. But it doesn’t apply to all kind of breaking rules behaviors. The satisfaction is not related so much to breaking for the sake of breaking. I am pretty much into gaining optimal experience with optimal pleasure. When breaking is necessary to expose me to the richness of life experience, then I’d do it. I also don’t believe that truth lies in rules/regulations. When breaking is necessary to reveal the truth, then I’d do it. And when breaking is a must to reconstruct new meaning, then I’d definitely break. I break and continue to break, when I feel the need to do so. Does it sound horrible?

My breaking week was so enjoyable, though all activities made me horribly tired that I fell asleep almost wherever and whenever I found a chance to do so. I fell asleep on all flights, in all cars i rode, in the garden, at the hotel rooms, at the airports, just almost everywhere. I fell asleep in the morning, at lunch time, evening, afternoon, before and after dinner. Just almost all the time! Luckily I didn’t fall asleep during my own presentations!

There’re several things that kept me awake. I was awake when I sketched. I was widely awake when I watched the Best of Balanchine — the first ballet performance I saw in my life. I was so so much in alert when I performed with Sound Attitude, an a cappella group consist of ladies from all age (20 to 90 year old). I am the newest member of this group. I only joined this year, early February (or end of Jan) and I missed 60% of the rehearsal for various reasons (bad me!). Fortunately, all other members are so nice, they let me perform with them anyway. Though it’s obvious (from the videos) that I was the only one that hadn’t memorized the songs. We performed 11 songs in 3-4 parts, mostly from plays, 1 duet and 3 solo (I did one solo of vocal/guitar of the Autumn Leaves and one-line-solo at Sunrise, Sunset).

To keep you awake while reading my posting, please find some of the results of things that kept me awake last week. Enjoy!

[...] that she is. A multi talented lady. Two of fellow blogger Merlyna Lim’s many talents are guitar [...]

I should apologize. Without asking your permission I’ve copied your “autumn leaves” and did put it on ‘pelopor’. Just because I love your cover of ‘Les Feuilles Mortes’.

But if you object, just let me know and I will delete. If you don’t: great - the more people who can enjoy it, the better.

(Pity though you yourself stayed in the shadow during the recording.)

mer: no need to apologize. once in cyberspace — it’s in public domain :) glad you love it. p.s. sometimes i enjoy being in the shadow, haha

wow.. you’re such multi talented..
I really admire you and becomes your fan now..
Playing guitar seems fun, wanna try it some day later, hehe..

mer: oh, don’t admire me… i am a bad person :D yes, guitar is fun, you should try playing it.

Gosh, still recovering and yet so productive! Breaking rules, that’s not me at all, I would be so tense each time I find myself not following a plan I made. But you breaking rules always lead to exciting and funny experiences. You are indeed multi talented, in every way :D

mer: i can see that you’re so discipline and neat and well-behaved. that’s so great. i admire someone who can be like that! i am just a messy-chaotic-rebellious person :D

Well, Mer, I think so too. :)
I’m glad we have at least one thing in common: singing our hearts out.
I don’t sing much oldies though…
Prefer R&B, pop & slow rock. :)
Don’t mind Whitney Houston, Queen, Madonna & Britney.

mer: cool, we can do karaoke together then. i am an old soul, but i only sing pop & r&b when asked to.

OK, I’m officially your fans!

Can I have your autograph? :D

Mbak, I really wish to meet you sometime while I’m in US. I have friends who also study in ASU..if you dont mind.
