1st Day of Spring Semester: head and book

Today is the first day of Spring Semester. I am excited to start my semester, however, my body is still in a different timezone. During the break, I went to bed at around 4 — 5 am. And started my day in the afternoon, as if I lived in Auckland or Casablanca or anywhere in the world with GMT +11 or GMT +12. Unfortunately, I live in GMT -7!

I went to bed at 3 am last night (this morning), so it was much earlier than usual, but I didn’t get my 8 hours sleep, ugh. So, now I am at my messy office, feeling terribly sleepy. Tomorrow is the first day of my class, JUS 394 Information Technology and Social Justice. It starts at 10:45 a.m, but that’s still too early for my current body!!! Guess I need to change my bio-rhythmic very soon, otherwise I’ll be snoring in my own lecture!

One of some exciting things of coming back to office today was to find a crisp beautiful hard copy of the Globalization, the City and Civil Society in Pacific Asia in my mailbox. Even more so was to find my article inside. Oooh… I am momentarily happy. The smell of paper….. new book….. feels so good! Now I can close my eyes and put my big sleepy head on the book…… pretending that I am reading it closely!!!

Hi Merlyna,

Just want to say hello! I found out your blog this morning. It is really great. It’s been two years since our meeting in Colombo. You are moving again. Thanks for your book.

mer: thanks for your hello :) glad you found my blog. it’s actually been three years! colombo was dec 2004, wasn’t it?

“Now I can close my eyes and put my big sleepy head on the book…… pretending that I am reading it closely!!!” LOL … I’m loving it :D.

mer: i love that you’re lovin’ it :D

I try to imagine…

The choir of snoring students, directed by a snoring lecturer…

It’s art. But is it still an event of modernism or should we label it as post modern???

Seriously: (1) I’m looking forward to make acquaintance with your part in the brandnew “Globalization” and (2) make sure you get enough sleep soon.

mer: it’s gonna be classic if i snored with my students! a hyper-modern art? meanwhile (1) i’ll post a summary with a link to a complete article in my next post, and (2) i’ll go to bed early (like now!) since i still had less than 8 hours sleep last night.

Mer, how is that possible? Lecture, writing, blogging, yet still able to sleep 8 hours a day?

mer: because one day is 24 hours, dear. blogging is only 5 to 30 minutes a day. i still have a whole lot of time to waste… ha!

Have a wonderful semester, Prof Lim :) Bibi is ready to have a cup of coffee if you need a friend to ‘ngopi’ with. Thanks for sharing the biggest secret of being beautiful and smart, kakakakak!

mer: …… thanks bibi….. one more secret is to have a perfect bibi… hahaha.

mer: true… but believe me, most of my students don’t know how to blog…..

dear merlyna,
I ran across your blog a while ago and have been gratefully downloading and reading your pubs. I´m currently researching on a similar subject (Indonesian blogs) and was wondering if there is a way to get in touch with you vial mail to exchange some thoughts. Best wishes, Nadine

mer: thanks, Nadine. i’m glad to meet you here! let’s talk over emails.

Hi.. Stumble to this site through Tresspotter.

I like your writing, it’s entertaining.

Salam ti Mojang Tasik ah Teh :)

mer: thanks… glad you like it… nuhun nya.. ieu teh tatanggi-na Susy Susanti? Hahaha….

mer: it’s gonna be classic if i snored with my students!

How about:
mer : snoring
Students: doing EVERYTHING to wake her (including, but not limited to: gelitikin si prof, bikin keriuhan: main musik, teriak2 di kuping prof, ngejatuhin barang2, berusaha menjatuhkan kursi dan meja yg mendukung posisi tidur si prof)

mer: if this scenario happened…. i’d enjoy it in my dream… and continue snoring... :p

When we played softball, I’d steal second base, then I’d feel guilty and go back.
