Hot Sunday in LA
It’s over 90F in LA. Other places in Greater LA like San Fernando Valley are even hotter. It reaches 119. I heard these last two days are among the hottest days ever in the LA history. Worse is that it’s kinda humid, so it feels hotter than the real temperature. With no aircon at home, I am melting.
Today, LA is not only hot by its weather. It’s hot because 86 hot beautiful sexy girls are around. They are now competing at the Shrine, which is perhaps only 0.5 miles from my apartment. Due to this event, I got an email from USC Transportation department. It said:
The Miss Universe Pageant is scheduled to take place on Sunday - July 23, 2006 at the Shrine Auditorium during the hours of 6:00pm - 8:00pm. We have been advised by Shrine officials that no street closures are scheduled to accommodate the event (subject to change). However, we do anticipate heavy traffic around the University of Southern California on the aforementioned date.
It is our recommendation that you use Gate (3) at Figueroa and McCarthy Way or Gate (5) at Jefferson and McClintock if you have business on or near the USC campus during the Miss Universe Pageant.
See, I really get a true impact of Miss Universe pageant…:D
I feel a bit cranky that NBC decided to broadcast the pageant not at 6 pm Pacific time (LA time) but 9 pm! So my friends in East Coast and Central now are watching it, but I, who stays only 2 minutes from the Shrine, have to wait another 3 hours to watch it. Ugh. Unfair! I am curious! Perhaps I should just take my bike now and cycle to the Shrine. Knock the door really hard and force to get in.
The truth is I did pass the Shrine. It was quiet there. No heavy traffic at all. I saw some young males wearing Japanese outfit standing at the VIP gate and a certain selebrity I-don’t-know-who came to the parking space with a limousine. Just an ordinary Sunday in LA. Most people in this city don’t even know that the pageant is held here.
Back to me and the MU, it’s funny to witness myself get hooked to the pageant… Something that I wasn’t into at all before. Thanks to Nadine (Miss Indonesia), I have now become so knowledgeable about the Miss Universe pageant! Perhaps I’ll write an academic article on this matter!!
A big relief to know that Miss Indonesia cancelled her plan to use English in her personal interview 3 days ago. So, all of the criticism worked. I think we should really appreciate her for that decision. We’ll see what language she would use if she went to top 20 5.
Oh yeah… some “truths” about the Pageant. I really think it’s weird that Angelina Jolie represents Albania. Why? For God’s sake, she is American! Another scandal is that Paris Hilton who is also American apparently represents Denmark! And Courteney Cox…. why does she represent Poland? Isn’t she satisfied being famous as Monica of the Friends? More surprising… apparently Alda, an Indonesian singer, has been disguised as Miss Mexico! Oh, oh, oh, apparently Miss Universe is a good export-import business!

Gelombang udara panas dan kecantikan yg ‘tidak biasa’ bisa menimbulkan para juri kontes kecantikan jadi berhenti bernafas. Akibatnya otak tidak menerima oksigen. Brain cell (sel otak) mulai mati 4 menit sesudah pasokan oksigen berhenti. Inilah suatu teori baru mengapa para pejabat bidang teknologi sering tak bisa berpikir lagi. (Mungkin perlu belajar ‘aesthetics algorithm’, jadi kecantikan adalah suatu hal yg ‘biasa’
